THE EMBLEM OF THE CHURCH

   Church Logo

The original version of the church emblem was conceived and designed by Bishop M.L. Tate, Founder and First Chief Overseer of the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth, Inc.  (The term "Founder" is rather misleading, since God's House was established in the very early days of the Old Testament and the Church during the life time of Jesus Christ, His Son; "Revivor" is more appropriate).  the emblem first appeared in published form in the 1923 edition and is recorded in the 1924 edition of The General Decree Book (1924, pp. 34,35) of the Church.  The original version depicted the Church as the "Square City" with God, the Pillars, the Ground, and the Truth as Its Foundation Elements.  Inward pointing arrows represented "points directly merging into the true and full name, expression, and meaning" of the church name.  Bible scripture references are provided to support and further explain the comprehensive statement of the name and style of the House of God as spoken of by the Apostle Paul (I Timothy 3:15).

The first revision of the emblem occurred in 1968 and a second revision was accomplished in 1976; both renditions were done by Meharry H. Lewis and appeared in published form for the first time in the 75th Anniversary Yearbook (1978) of the church.  The second revision was formally accepted and approved by the General Assembly at Nashville, Tennessee, July 30, 1978.

The current rendition of the emblem (above) depicts the "Square City" as the background superimposed upon the detail of a crux-formee which has rounded extremities.  The four (4) foundation Elements--God (the Living), the Pillars (prophets, apostles, and overcomers), the Ground (True Holiness), and the Truth (Christ and the Holy Ghost)--are in the foreground shown impacting the Earth.  The four stellar radiations represent the Light brought into a world of darkness by the Foundation Elements and the effulgence with which Christ illuminated the latter-day Church.  The center sphere with the name of the Church encircling it is a globe of the World--the earthly seat of the House of God.  The entire scenario is comprehended in the Apostle Paul's encompassing admonition to his protege, Timotheus, "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth," (I Timothy 3:15).  Taken from The Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth: Minister's Guide and Handbook, 1988, pp 93-95.

HYPA Logo            The Holiness Young People's Logo also draws upon the Founder's "Square City" theme for signification and has three distinct parts:  the Square, the Torch, and the Banner.  The Square City has been discussed above.  The Torch is the world recognized symbol for knowledge, leadership, truth, endurance, and fidelity.  These elements are to be forever nurtured in the Holiness youth of the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth, Inc.  The Torch stands as a beacon to the world and reminds us of the Words of Christ, "Let your light so shine  before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven," (Matthew 5:16).  The Banner clearly identifies the Holiness Young People's Auxiliary, which is "the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14).
